Labour's Black Hole

Professor Stephen Hawking made a rare entry into the political arena the other day by  branding Jeremy Corbyn's leadership of the party "a disaster".

Now Professor Hawking is credited with the discovery of 'black holes' out in the deep space, so I think it's hardly surprising that he is able to spot a political version of a black hole much closer to home, one that sucks the life everything - including the Labour Party it seems.

Which would fit in rather neatly with my own pet political theory because ever since the 1980s I've regarded Jeremy Corbyn as someone who was operating in a parallel political universe.

Professor Hawking, by the way, is a long-time Labour supporter, but read what he has to say for yourself in the link below to the Politics Home web site.

The renowned physicist and longstanding Labour supporter urged Mr Corbyn to stand down to prevent the party falling deeper into the black hole it finds itself in.

His damning comments come just months after the Labour leader proudly tweeted a photo of the pair after they sat together at the 2016 Pride of Britain awards.

Half of Labour members say Jeremy Corbyn should not fight next election, poll says

It represents more bad news for Mr Corbyn as a recent YouGov poll found half of Labour members do not think he should lead the party into the 2020 general election.

“I regard Corbyn as a disaster,” Mr Hawking said in an interview with the Times.

“His heart is in the right place and many of his policies are sound but he has allowed himself to be portrayed as a left-wing extremist.”

He told the paper he would still vote for Mr Corbyn at an election but doing so would be futile.

“I think he should step down for the sake of the party,” he added.

PoliticsHome understands Mr Hawking was in talks with Labour to stage an intervention on immigration policy - but the plans appear to have been put on hold.
