The Known Unknowns

Donald Trump has been shooting from the hip again with claims that the President-elect "knows things others don't" in connection with allegations of hacking against Russia.

Now this reminds me of the former American defence secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, who famously mused about the 'known knowns' (things we do know), 'known unknowns' (things we know we do not know) or 'unknown unknowns' (things we don't know that we don't know).

Donald Trump has promised to explain his inside, personal knowledge later this week, on Tuesday or Wednesday, so he says.

And I'm certain that America's powerful security agencies will be waiting with bated breath to hear what their incoming commander-in-chief has to say on the subject.

Regular readers will recall that the President-elect also promised to hold a press conference to address the highly sensitive issue of his many business interests on 15 December 2016 - a press conference which never took place.

In other words, we're into uncharted waters - unknown territory, you might say.

Donald Trump, the US president-elect, claimed that "no computer is safe" from hacking, as he expressed continued scepticism that Russia interfered in the election.

Mr Trump said he knew "things that other people don't know" about alleged Russian cyber attacks, which he would reveal "on Tuesday or Wednesday".

"Hacking is a very hard thing to prove," he told reporters at his New Year's Eve party in his Mar-a-Lago private club in Florida.

"So it could be somebody else. And I also know things that other people don’t know, and so they cannot be sure of the situation."

Broken Promises (29/12/16)

Several weeks ago now Donald Trump made a public statement announcing that he would hold a press conference on Thursday 15 December 2016 at which would explain how intended to divest himself of his business interests while acting as President of the United States.

As we approach 2017 the President-elect has still not kept his word which is is an important milestone if you ask me, because it marks the first of his broken promises to the American people.

Donald Trump's business interests may well prove to be his Achilles heel.
