Bailing Out

I know it's hard to feel sorry for someone who is an extremely wealthy multi-millionaire, but Gareth Bale (the world's most expensive football player) cut a lonely figure at the Bernabeu Stadium the other night as Juventus dumped Real Madrid out the  Champions League.

The drama on the pitch was as nothing compared to the scenes in the tunnel at half time as Bales' team mates all deliberately ignored the Englishman while 'high fiving' and giving each other lots of encouragement, as professional football players all do these days.

Now this was a very odd way to behave because football is a team sport which relies on team spirit, yet there was none of that in evidence last night as Real Madrid slid to a shock defeat on their home turf after effectively ostracising one of their own star players.

Bale has been mercilessly bullied in the Spanish football press for weeks and I would be surprised if he hasn't played his last game for Real Madrid who are about to have salt rubbed into their wounds by losing the Spanish league to their arch rivals Barcelona.

Not surprisingly the thugs who inhabit the dark underbelly of were waiting for Bale  hurling ugly Spanish insults of 'cabron' and 'hijo de puta' as he drove away from the ground.

So the ugly side of the 'beautiful game' was on show in Madrid on Wednesday night and how much do these ugly fans deserve their fate.
