North Lanarkshire Council

"Houston, we have a problem," seems like an apt comment in response to the news that North Lanarkshire Council is dragging its feet over equal pay.

Because everyone else has signed-off on the financial aspects of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on equal pay except the Council side which was supposed to do so this week, so that individual letters could be sent out to all claimants.

Yet for some mysterious reason NLC failed to deliver even though this is a matter of the greatest importance to thousands of Council employees.

Now I'm a great believer in the cock-up as opposed to the conspiracy theory of history.

So I don't necessarily think this is a sign that the proposed settlement of the equal pay dispute in North Lanarkshire is beginning to unravel.

But one thing's for certain.

If the Council doesn't hold up its end of the bargain within the next week, then all of the outstanding A4ES equal pay claims will end up back at the Employment Tribunals on Monday 23 March 2015.

End of story.
