A Good Fit?

The mess that Rangers Football Club finds itself in today is down to a period when the club's dubious tax affairs were challenged big-time by the Inland Revenue.

Now the whole tax business is still unresolved as far as I know, but no one could deny that the practice of making loans to players and other staff which never had to be repaid was a 'scam' and a shameful way for Rangers to behave.

Against such a fraught background it's all the more remarkable that Rangers new 'saviour', Dave King, has 41 convictions for tax breaches in South Africa which required him to pay a fine of around £200,000 fine and repay £45 million to the tax authorities in South Africa.

In addition King was, of course, a director of the Ibrox club when Rangers went into liquidation in October 2012 leaving the taxpayer holding the baby to the tune of tens of millions of pounds in unpaid tax and VAT.

Which begs the question - What were the club's other directors (including King) doing while Rangers went into financial meltdown less than three years ago?

Apparently the Scottish Football Association will now have to consider all of these issues before deciding whether or not King is a 'fit and proper person' to be running a football club in Scotland.
