North Lanarkshire (04/09/14)

A regular reader from North Lanarkshire has been in touch to say that their local Labour councillor is worse than useless on the subject of equal pay - not interested in taking up people's concerns about the way the Council has behaved or in holding senior managers to account.

But local people in North Lanarkshire are not restricted in the choice of which councillor they can approach because every council ward is a multi-member ward these days - with a range of councillors to choose from (unlike Westminster MPs).

So if you are unhappy with the attitude of the local Labour Party (which has been running the council for years after all), then take your case to someone else who is more willing to listen to your concerns.

In other words don't be fobbed off by some time serving hack who is just peddling the party line instead of answering perfectly reasonable questions about the Council's behaviour, a few examples of which are detailed below.

NLC Feedback (4 June 2014)

The equal pay campaign in North Lanarkshire is now really heating up with more and more local politicians entering the fray to challenge the Council's behaviour.

I've had various reports and feedback from readers to confirm that Jamie Hepburn MSP and Alex Neil MSP are vigorously taking matters up on behalf of their local constituents - and a number of local councillors seem to be getting involved as well.

Labour politicians seem to be sitting on their hands by and large which is crazy if you ask me, because equal pay is not a party political issue and Labour politicians should be willing to challenge and criticise the terrible mess senior officials have made of things, despite the fact that the Council is Labour controlled.
