Speed Bonny Boat

Steve Bell 13.11.14

Steve Bell, The Guardian's cartoonist, seems to have a bit of a 'tin ear' when it comes to Scottish politics because unless I've misunderstood things Steve in this drawing is mocking Alex Salmond, as Bonnie Prince Charlie.

And the role of Flora MacDonald, who helped save Bonnie Prince Charlie's life in 1746 as he fled into exile after the Jacobite risings, falls to Nicola Sturgeon the new and equally feisty SNP leader.

Yet far from fleeing into exile, Alex Salmond may well be planning a return to politics at Westminster via next May's general election and far from being bedraggled and defeated, the SNP have a big spring in their step after the recent referendum on Scottish independence.
