Jihadi 'Justice'



The Guido Fawkes web site (www.order-order.com) has this fly on the wall video of the Islamic State (formerly ISIS) in action Raqqa, the group's unofficial capital which lies in the north of Syria.

 I've never done it myself but I'm sure it's very easy to control other people's lives and order them around when you've got an assault rifle slung over your shoulder and the prospect of back-up and terrible retribution if anyone answers back or steps out of line. 

And unlike prisons in the west where there are no guilty men behind bars, the poor souls banged up in Raqqa are only too willing to admit their crimes and accept their punishment - no doubt in terror of what will happen to them if they say anything else.

The best reporting of what has happened in Iraq and Syria over the last few months has not been in the papers or on television, but online. Vice are the only news organisation who have managed to embed a reporter with Islamic State (ISIS). Medyan Dairieh’s documentary from Raqqa is remarkable viewing and well worth a watch.

SNP - Conspiracy of Silence

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer. So here's a list of activities which will help shine a light on what has been going on because as Lord Nolan once said apropos driving up standards in public life - 'daylight is the best disinfectant'.
