Office Expenses

The Ukip headquarters near Bognor Regis

The Times published yesterday a picture of the Ukip office in West Sussex located down the end of a country lane and which cost the taxpayer £15,000 a year according to Nigel Farage's expenses claims.

Now if you ask me the disabled access doesn't look to good, so I'll be interested to see if the finances add up now that an investigation is underway.

I heard Nigel Farage trying to bluster his way out of things by arguing that his office ran 'banks of computers' as a way of explaining its high maintenance costs which sounds a tad unlikely looking at the place.

Nigel also tried to argue that this EU money was an 'allowance' and not an expenses claim, so he didn't really have to account for it or provide receipts, but the same of course was true of the Westminster MPs 'food allowance' of £200 a month which politicians abruptly dropped claiming as soon as this ridiculous waste of taxpayers' money became public knowledge.

MPs' flipping the designation of their second homes was another practice which was 'within the rules' and worth thousands of pounds a year, which nonetheless stopped in its tracks as soon as Westminster's secret was rumbled.

So Nigel can't have it both ways and the fact that Westminster MPs were operating within the rules did not prevent the voters seeing through the whole business as a complete scam - because the rules were crazy and could not be justified in the cold light of day.
