Don't Get Left Behind!



Apparently the Hamilton Advertiser has a story in this weeks' newspaper about people who have lost out on equal pay because they never got round to registering a claim.

 Now some of these people did so on the advice of their trade unions which their trade unions ought to answer for, if you ask me.

 But the real issue is why, in the light of what's happened in South Lanarkshire, would anyone in North Lanarkshire now wait for the horse to bolt - before closing the stable door.  

 In other words don't get left behind or left out - get things moving today.

A4ES has sent out well over 200 information packs to people in North Lanarkshire over the past two weeks, potential new clients who have still to register equal pay claims against North Lanarkshire Council.

Now some of these individuals have asked whether they need to take up their own claim - won't they just get the same settlement if and when the Council finally concedes defeat?

Well the answer to that question is No, as lots of people in South Lanarkshire have recently found out to their cost.  

The only way for people to protect their interests is to register an individual equal pay claim which is then valid for five years going back in time from the date a person registers an equal pay claim with the Employment Tribunals.

For example, if a claim were registered today (8 April 2014) the claim cover the period from 8 April 2009 until the date it is settled.

In other words delaying the date is affecting the value of a claim because the 'meter' doesn't start running until a claim is registered with the Employment Tribunals.

SNP - Conspiracy of Silence

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer.
