Son of a Preacher Man


The newspapers report that the son of the Reverend Jesse Jackson - Jesse Jackson Junior - has pled guilty to misusing (i.e. stealing) around $750,000 in campaign funds.

Now that's a whole lotta money and it funded a luxurious lifestyle - which included the purchase of a gentleman's gold-plated Rolex watch worth $40,000 - would you believe.

Amazing and hypocritical - in equal measure.

Jesse Jackson Junior and his wife - Sandra Jackson - face the prospect of jail for their crime spree - plus stiff fines which are likely to run to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

As I read the story I was reminded of the hit song from the 1960s by Dusty Springfield - Son of a Preacher Man - so here's a YouTube link.

SNP - Conspiracy of Silence

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer.
