'Let them eat cake!'

Today's cartoon in The Times - by Peter Brookes - hits the nail on the head when it comes to North Korea.

An impoverished country which is often too poor to feed its own people - nonetheless has the resources to fire rockets into outer-space.

In all the news coverage I've watched about North Korea of late - which is scant admittedly - the only person I've ever seen with a double chin is the country's new leader, Kim Jong-un.

'Let them eat cake', said Marie Antoinette once upon a time - but I would say kim Jong-un is no stranger to the sweet trolley himself.

I wonder what the United Nations will make of it all - possibly just more hand wringing.

But I think it's fair to say that this failed state would cease to exist in its present form - if North Korea and its Kim family dynasty were not propped up by China - its next door neighbour and only friend on the world stage.

SNP - Conspiracy of Silence

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer.
