Tonight's the Night

Tonight's the night for Scotland - a last gasp chance to get to the play-offs and potentially qualify for the Euro 2012 championships.

The only problem is to be sure we have to beat the reigning world champions Spain - on home soil in Alicante - which sounds a bit unlikely.

Maybe the contest could be made more 'even' by a few of the Spanish players agreeing to tie their legs together - as you do in a three-legged race?

But that seems even less likely - because like the Scots the Spanish are a proud people - so we'll just have to go out and do things the hard way.

A win in Spain is not the only way to go through to the play-offs though - if Lithuania beat the Czech Republic tonight - then Scotland will stay in second place.

Or if both games end in a draw - then Scotland keep the number two spot - and go through to the play-offs and another chance to reach the finals.

I can hardly bear the excitement of it all.

I hope in the words of the Rod Stewart song - 'it's gonna be alright' - you just never know with Scotland.
