Name and Shame
Yesterday a man was given a 12-month community payback order - as opposed to a prison sentence - for posting threatening and abusive messages on Facebook about the Celtic football manager - Neil Lennon.
The man in question was Robert Rollie (39) - from Cumnock in East Ayrshire - a Rangers fan apparently though I'm sure the Ibrox club would be the first to disassociate itself - from this idiot's ugly and cowardly behaviour.
Robert Rollie was arrested after police stepped up their activities - and began reviewing the traffic on social networking sites - in the wake of the Old Firm 'shame game' in March 2011.
Robert Rollie apparently had a Facebook page entitled - "Neil Lennon should be sacked and jailed for racism" - on which he shared with the world his view that the Celtic manager should be sent back to Ireland.
Robert Rollie also suggested that the Celtic manager deserved to be 'shot' - and as you'd expect his behaviour was given short shrift - by a judge at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
Th Sheriff decided not to send him to prison - which I think was probably the right thing to do - in the circumstances.
But if a community payback order does not have the desired effect - if he doesn't learn his lesson and re-offends - then Robert Rollie and people like him - deserve to be sent to prison for five years.
