A Bridge Too Far

Hundreds of protesters were arrested yesterday - after they blocked traffic on New York City's Brooklyn Bridge.

The protesters were apparently from the 'Occupy Wall Street' movement - a loose knit groups whose ambition is to flood into Lower Manhattan - and stay there 'for a few months'.

I can't see the point of that myself - but it's an area I know very well - and not too far from Houston Street - the site of Katz's Deli and one of the best retaurants in the world.

Katz's is an old-school deli - nothing too fancy or pricey - just good old-fashioned, quality food  including pastrami and corned beef sandwiches - that put enough fuel in your tank to last the whole day.

So it's a place to head for if you're looking for an authentic slice of the Big Apple - and it's right next door to Chinatown and Little Italy - ideal for a little walkabout.

But back to the protesters - where this whole thing started off.

The 'Occupy Wall Street' movement are protesting about corporate greed - and the fact that around 1% of American's own 50% of the country's wealth.

Now I can understand why such a movement exists - Scotland used to have a theatre group called the 7:84 Theatre Company - which was famously left-wing and championed the same cause.

So instead of walking across the Brooklyn Bridge the wrong way - and snarling up all the traffic.

Why don't the protesters use their noodle - and try to get fellow citizens on their side - with a bit of culture and humour.

Because trying to occupy Wall Street and causing even more traffic jams in NYC - is a sure fire way of turning people against you - then they don't listen to a word you have to say.
