'Loved His Club Too Much'

Newspaper reports today confirm that Scotland's criminal justice system - is truly mad.

Because the Edinburgh man - Jack Wilson - who was seen running on to the pitch and attacking Neil Lennon during a Hearts v Celtic football match - is insisting on his 'right' to a trial.

Jack Wilson faces two separate charges of assault and breach of the peace - both aggravated by religious prejudice - which Jack denies despite the fact there were - literally -  thousands of witnesses to his crazed behaviour.

Clearly this chap is an egg sandwich or two short of a full picnic - because not only was the ground full - the match was shown live on TV to the shame of the whole country.

Presumably his defence which a lawyer will present - and probably be paid for out of public funds - will focus on the aggravated nature of the charges.

In other words - how can anyone prove that he was acting out of religious prejudice, if Jack's excuse is that he was indeed a drunken idiot - but a drunken idiot without a religious motive or prejudice?

Now that's a good question - because it's impossible to say for sure what's in people's minds - especially if they lie and refuse to tell the truth.

So it comes down to what can be inferred from people's actions and behaviour - as opposed to what they say about their motives - because wrongdoers often lie and the prisons are full of innocent people - as everyone knows

I hope that a jury convicts this clown and that a judge throws the book at him - for wasting time and public money.

Because if he doesn't come up with another plausible reason for attacking the Celtic manager - then it seems to me that inferring religious prejudice as his real motive - is perfectly reasonable.

In which case Jack should get the maximum sentence possible - under the law.

And after that happens, the authorities should reflect on how people can make such a mockery of Scotland's criminal justice system.

Maybe a brilliant defence lawyer will try to argue that his client - 'loved his club too much' - took leave of his senses temporarily - but is now ready to re-join and play a full part in society again.

But if you believe that - you'll believe anything.

Surely with all the brilliant legal minds in we have in Scotland - the politicians and lawmakers can find ways to deter this kind of ridiculous behaviour.
