Stating the Facts

The NUT union - the largest teaching union in England and Wales - has voted for strike action over pensions.

In the strike ballot - 92% of NUT members voted in favour of strike action - based on a turnout of 40%.

In other words - a big majority and respectable turnout - but not a majority turnout.

Yet the result still means that less than 37% of NUT members - have positively voted in support of strike action - a bit more than a third.

Teachers are one of the better paid groups of council workers - of course - and one of those that do well out of a 'final salary' pension scheme.
