Foot Dragging Councils

Back on April 2nd 2010 - I reported that several councils had asked the Scottish government to borrow additional funds - to help meet the back pay costs of equal pay - see post below.

Since then readers from these councils continue to ask: "What exactly are these councils doing with the money - because nothing much appears to be happening n the ground?"

Good question - that's what I'd like to know as well.

The leaders and chief executives of these councils have all been contacted - and asked if they want to settle all the outstanding cases on fair and reasonable terms.

So far only Falkirk Council has got its act together - but the others are all dragging their feet.

If readers in Clackmannanshire, East Dunbartonshire, Midlothian and West Dunbartonshire are fed up with these antics - why not drop the council leader or your local MSP a note?

"Meeting the Costs of Equal Pay"

Several Scottish councils have asked the Scottish Government for permission to borrow extra funds - to help them meet the back pay costs of their outstanding equal pay claims.

Here's what they've been allocated by way of additional 'borrowing consents' from the Scottish Government

Clackmannanshire Council
£1,513,000

East Dunbartonshire Council
£2,786,000

Falkirk Council
£5,633,000

Midlothian Council
£9,091,000

West Dunbartonshire Council
£4,413,000

It seems fair to assume that having asked to borrow these additional funds - the councils involved should now get their fingers out and put firm proposals on the table.

And given that large sums of public money are involved - Action 4 Equality Scotland will ensure that there is a fair and just settlement of people's claims."
